Woolton Pie

This recipe is named after the Minister for Food - Lord Woolton.

It is an adaptable recipe that you can change depending on the seasonal vegetables available.

Potatoes

Carrots

Turnip/swede

1 Onion, chopped

1 Stock cube

1oz Oats

 

Instructions

Dice & cook about 1lb of the following in lightly salted water:

Carrots, swede/Turnip

Stain off the cooked vegetables keeping ¾ pint of the veg water.

In a separate pan boil the potatoes, ready for mashing.

Dry fry onion.

Arrange cooked vegetables in a large pie dish along with the onion.

Sprinkle stock cube into the saved veg water & add the porridge oats. Leave for a few minutes for the oats to soak in..

Pour this over the veg dish.

Top with mashed potatoes & a very small amount of grated cheese if you can spare it from your 100 cal a day rations!

Cook in moderately hot oven until golden brown, just as you would a shepherds pie.
